Tissue microarray construction on the 3DHISTECH TMA Grand Master. Cores are punched from FFPE donor blocks and reassembled into a single recipient block at one of four core diameters - 0.6, 1, 1.5 or 2 mm - giving up to 558 cores per block at 0.6 mm, 286 at 1 mm, 135 at 1.5 mm and 84 at 2 mm. The instrument runs fully automated with a total capacity of 72 blocks (60 donor, 12 recipient) and can additionally extract cores into PCR tubes for downstream molecular analysis. This is a tissue-processing service that produces arrayed blocks; it does not itself generate molecular or spatial measurements.

Service scope

The service builds a tissue microarray: cores are taken from multiple FFPE donor blocks and placed into a single recipient block, so a downstream assay runs once across an arrayed cohort rather than once per case.

  • Core diameters offered: 0.6 mm, 1 mm, 1.5 mm and 2 mm.
  • Maximum cores per recipient block by diameter: 558 (0.6 mm), 286 (1 mm), 135 (1.5 mm), 84 (2 mm).
  • Recipient block layout is designed in the TMA Control software, with a digital slide overlay (annotated MRXS and JPEG images superimposed on the donor block scan) for precise core selection.
  • Deliverable: the recipient TMA block and a core map recording the donor block and coordinate of each core.

Additional capabilities

The instrument supports work beyond block construction on the same run.

  • Clone blocks: identical TMA blocks can be produced from the same donor set.
  • Core extraction for molecular analysis: cores can be extracted into PCR tubes (6 PCR cassettes, each holding 10 tubes) for DNA extraction and PCR, with a cleaning-block step between samples to prevent cross-contamination.
  • Barcode tracking: 1D and 2D barcode scanning for sample traceability.
  • Optional H&E of the completed recipient block.
